Video Description

Make your own greenhouse with household supplies!
https://www.7oaks.org/Student/7OaksGrows/Stories/default.aspx#/

Supplies:
-4 L Milk Jug (or other translucent plastic container)
-Seeds that can tolerate cooler weather (lettuce, spinach, kale, cabbage, broccoli, peas)
-Soil - potting or seed starting soil, or whatever you have
-Permanent Marker to label your greenhouse
-Knife to make drainage and ventilation holes
-Tape to re-seal container
-Water

Instructions:
1. Cut (horizontally) around the midline of your container, leaving about 5cm still attached to act as a hinge.
2. With a knife or pen poke several holes in the bottom of the container to ensure good water drainage. Holes should be small enough that not much soil can fall out (about size of a paper hole punch).
3. Poke a few holes in the top section to enable air ventilation.
4. Put about 10 cm of soil in the bottom of the container.
5. Water the soil so it drips through the drainage holes at the bottom.
6. Make 2-4 holes in the soil that are 2-3 times as deep as your seeds are tall.
7. Plant your seeds in the hole (one or two per hole) and cover lightly with soil.
8. Close the top of your green house and tape it shut. Remove the cap.
9. Write the type of seeds you planted and the date on the milk jug.
10. Put outside in a sunny spot.
11. Check on your seeds every couple of days after temperatures start to rise above freezing. Water if top 3 cm of soil drys out.
12. Once seeds sprout and daytime temperatures are over 10°C, you can open the top of your greenhouse during the day. If nights are above 0°C, you can leave the lid off permanently.
